Woman gets shock time in dog-dragging case

Saturday, 21 December 2013 08:10 Published in Local News

ST. CHARLES, Mo. (AP) — A suburban St. Louis woman will spend two days in jail for accidentally dragging her pit bull down Interstate 70.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 34-year-old Amy Taylor of Bridgeton was sentenced to the shock time in jail on Friday and ordered to pay veterinary bills for the 2-year-old dog, Coco. She pleaded guilty Monday to one count of misdemeanor animal abuse.

The dog was dragged for about a mile on May 22nd in St. Charles County. Authorities say Taylor put the dog in an unsecured kennel in the back of her pickup and failed to remove his leash. Somehow the dog got out of the kennel but the leash hung up on the tailgate.

Coco was badly hurt but survived.

Man sentenced for killing uncle over pork steak argument

Saturday, 21 December 2013 08:09 Published in Local News

ST. LOUIS (AP) — A St. Louis County man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for killing his uncle during an argument over pork steaks.

John Cunningham was sentenced Friday in St. Louis Circuit Court, where he was convicted earlier of voluntary manslaughter and armed criminal action.

Police said the Jennings resident shot Lessie Lowe in September 2012 at the older man's home in St. Louis.

The shooting followed a dispute over whether the cuts of meat they were planning to cook were pork steaks or pork chops. Cunningham said they were pork steaks, but Lowe disagreed.

Police said they were pork steaks.

Boeing notifies bidding sites about 777X status

Saturday, 21 December 2013 08:06 Published in Local News

CHICAGO (AP) — Boeing says it has begun telling states whether they're still in the running to build its new 777X.

Boeing has gotten proposals from 22 states including Missouri that all want to build the plane. Boeing says it is narrowing the list down and is telling each location its status in the process. Boeing isn't releasing the list publicly.

The company says it expects to pick a location early next year.

Boeing began looking for a new location to build the successor to its popular 777 after union workers in Washington state rejected a deal that would have kept the work there. The 777X is expected to bring thousands of well-paying jobs to wherever it is assembled.

Boeing is aiming to deliver the plane in 2020.
