Cape Girardeau plans to double number of emergency sirens
Monday, 18 February 2013 11:46 Published in Local NewsEmergency officials say they intend to add five sirens to the four the city already operates. Mark Hasheider, an assistant emergency management coordinator, says the sirens will be placed in heavily populated areas of the city, such as parks, or near retail establishments.
He says that will provide advanced warnings of emergencies to as many people as possible.
The Southeast Missourian reports the exact location of each siren has not been determined. Hasheider says the company that maintains the current sirens will set up "demo sirens" to determine optimal locations for the new sirens. Installation of the new sirens is tentatively set for June.
