Ohio still home to 'A Christmas Story'

Sunday, 01 December 2013 09:05 Published in National News

CLEVELAND (AP) — Fans of the 1983 movie "A Christmas Story" still can't get enough of its quirky humor and heart-warming family theme and are relishing this season's 30th anniversary celebration.

Hundreds stood in line Saturday to get into the Ohio home in Cleveland, where some of the movie was filmed and 9-year-old Ralphie dreamed of getting an air rifle for Christmas. The story's 1940s trappings are all there: the iconic leg lamp, a typewriter and globe, a BB gun range in the backyard.

At a hotel in the city's Public Square, some of the original cast members signed autographs. And thousands were thrilled during the city's annual winter festival when a gigantic image of a leg lamp was projected onto a tower.

FDNY: 'Multiple injuries' in NYC train derailment

Sunday, 01 December 2013 09:03 Published in National News

NEW YORK (AP) — The Fire Department of New York says there are "multiple injuries" in a Metro-North passenger train derailment, but the extent of the injuries is unclear.

The FDNY says the train derailment in the Bronx was reported at 7:20 a.m. Sunday near the Spuyten Duyvil station. The fire department says 130 firefighters are on the scene.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says four or five cars on the seven-car train derailed about 100 yards north of the station on a curved section of the track. But the MTA says none of the cars entered the Hudson or Harlem rivers, which are adjacent.

The agency says the crash was reported by the engineer and it wasn't clear if any crew members are injured.
