Ellisville City Council to meet over Mayor's impeachment

When the Ellisville City Council members meet Wednesday, they're expected to levy charges against Mayor Adam Paul that range from disclosing employee salaries to using city resources to help a campaign contributor, and drinking on the job.
The 11 page resolution calling for Paul’s removal was drawn up by City Attorney Paul Martin after the council voted 5-2 for impeachment proceedings. Martin told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that the mayor's improprieties began right after he took office last April.
That's also when Paul began officially fighting with most council members over a controversial Walmart TIF. The TIF passed, but is now tied up in court.
The impeachment drive follows an effort by some residents to get council members who'd supported the TIF recalled from office. That effort fell flat when a St. Louis County judge ruled that the city's recall provisions were unconstitutional.
If the council votes to adopt the impeachment resolution at Wednesday night's meeting, Paul would be suspended for 45 days, pending the outcome of an investigation.

STL County: 41 ruined buildings have date with wrecking ball

St. Louis County is hoping to boost property values and revitalize some neighborhoods with a program that begins Monday. The County will begin demolishing dozens of vacant buildings, mostly in north county.
First to go will be the long-closed Glasgow Village Shopping Center.
County Executive Charlie Dooley says the county has identified 41 buildings that have become chronic eyesores. Dooley says the county has boosted it's demolition budget from $72 thousand to more than $700 thousand.
Dooley says he's hoping developers will buy the commercial property and build new businesses.

ISP to crack down on unsafe driving with March NITE patrols

The Illinois State Police are ramping up enforcement patrols in St. Clair and Madison Counties in March.
District 11 Commander, Captain Brad Parsons said Sunday that the Nighttime Enforcement Patrols are aimed at getting unsafe drivers off the road. Parsons says alcohol and drug impairment is a significant factor in over 40 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois, so patrols will especially watch for impaired drivers.
The month-long traffic safety project is funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
