ROLLA, Mo. (AP) - Tech-savvy high school students from across Missouri will convene Saturday for a regional robotics championship at Missouri University of Science and Technology.

The Missouri FIRST Tech Challenge takes place at the Student Recreation Center on the Rolla campus. The state event is part of a nationwide competition in which teams of up to 10 students design, build and program the robots.
<br><br>
The 40 teams expected to compete Saturday will be asked to have their robots place racquet and bowling balls into crates, and then stack the crates.
<br><br>
The competition is sponsored by the nonprofit group FIRST, also known as For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. Winners of the state event get to compete in the world championship at St. Louis' Edward Jones Dome in April.
