A manhunt ends with one of two men injured after falling into a quarry after they were suspected of trying to steal scrap metal.

The alleged thief tumbled down a cliff at the Fort Bell Quarry rock quarry early this (Wednesday) morning in the far northern end of St. Louis County. The unidentified man was rushed to a hospital by helicopter.

Police were called at about 1 a.m. Wednesday to check on a suspicious U-Haul rental truck that was backed up to several pallets of scrap metal near West Alton. St Louis County Police Officer Rick Eckhard says the truck was at train tracks close to the Lewis Bridge and Highway 367.

When the men saw police, they ran off. One of them tried to hide, but police found him right away.
Police searched for the second man, tracking him to the quarry at Lewis and Clark Boulevard. No word on his condition. Charges have yet to be filed.
