Illinois U.S. Senator Dick Durbin is in East St Louis at this hour. He's set to speak to announce new safety and security measures in East St. Louis that will help local and federal law enforcement agencies combat the high rate of violent crime in the community.

Last August, Durbin met with residents of the John DeShields Housing Development and the Working Against Violent Elements (WAVE) Task Force. It's a collaboration of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, in order to discuss measures that could be taken in order to address violent crime in the metro-east. Durbin will be joined by local law enforcement officials and representatives from the East St. Louis Housing Authority.
