There could be as many as 52 races at Fairmount Park next season, or as few as 10.

It all depends on whether or not Illinois lawmakers extend Internet-based wagering and supplemental funding.  The Illinois Racing Board Tuesday announced four alternative 2014 schedules for all five Illinois horse tracks.  The Belleville News-Democrat reports that the number of races run depends on the revenue raised through Advanced deposit wagering, which provides funds to the racing board and venues.  The measure has to be re-authorized periodically.

The current extension is set to expire at the end of January.

One jockey has been released from the hospital after a collision at Fairmount Park on Tuesday.

Robert Cummings was jockeying the Number 2 horse Shakkarena when they collided with another horse. Cummings suffered only bruises and was released from the hospital.

The other jockey, Rohan Singh, remains at St. Louis University Hospital with broken ribs and internal injuries--he is expected to be released early next week.

As for the horses, Singh's ride, She's on Her Way was not injured. Cummings' mount was not so lucky. Shakkarena had to be euthanized.

Fairmount Park is under investigation by the Illinois racing board over a race that took place Tuesday.

The contest featured 70-year-old jockey Robert "Cowboy" Jones who was trying to set records as the oldest jockey to win a race and as the only jockey to win a race in seven decades.

Although Jones finished in second place, state horse racing regulators want to know if competing jockeys tried to conspire to let Jones win.

"The officials work for the State of Illinois so they are completely independent," Fairmount Park officials said in a written statement about the investigation. "They administer the races all over the state.

The jockeys being questioned are independent contractors. They have nothing to do with Fairmount Park. It would be inappropriate for us to comment during an ongoing inquiry by state racing officials."
