Charges are filed against 17-year-old Charles Guice in the hit-and-run that killed a 2-year-old boy.

He faces one count of Leaving the Scene of an Accident. On Sunday night, officers found a 17-year-old woman and the 2-year-old boy in road--witnesses said they were hit by a driver in a white SUV. The teen survived the accident, but the toddler died.

Police found the vehicle on Monday and Guice turned himself in when he found out police were looking for him. He told officers he was scared, and that is why he drove away from the accident.

Leaving the Scene of an Accident is a Class D felony, meaning a conviction could carry a sentence of no more than four years in prison. No other charges were announced.

A tearful plea today from the grandmother of a two-year-old boy who was killed by a hit and run driver Sunday night in Spanish Lake. "Whoever you are, please have a conscience.  (sobs) And just come forward. My grandson did not deserve this."

St Louis County police say two-year-old Darion Griffin ran out into the street around  8 p.m. in the 1500 block of Redmond Road.  Witnesses told police that a white SUV with tinted windows was speeding eastbound on Redmond near Bellefontaine Road when it hit  the toddler and his 17-year-old aunt, Sheria Evans.   Police say Evans was trying to pull the child from the path of the vehicle. The SUV didn't stop.  

Both victims were rushed to a nearby hospital where the boy was pronounced dead. The teen suffered minor injuries.

St. Louis County Prosecutors believe they have the man responsible for a series of armed robberies in North County this year in custody.

20-year-old Joshua Crosby faces several charges for the break in that started in February. Crosby allegedly robbed a Dollar General in North County then robbed a woman behind the store. Police connected Crosby to the crime using evidence from a series of other street crimes in the area.

Crosby was arrested in late February.

 

   Ameren crews continue to work around the clock to restore power to those affected by Friday night's storms.

   The EF-3 tornado carved a 32 mile path of destruction from Weldon Spring to Ferguson and tore down over 200 poles critical to supplying electricity to tens of thousands of customers. Ameren's Michael Moehn says replacing the 70 foot poles is extremely labor intensive.

   "This is what we would call sub-transmission lines," Moehn said. "So the way it works is, we have to get this installed first because this feeds substations which then feed neighborhoods. So what we have to do is come in and disconnect everything from the existing poles, and then reset the new pole, and reconnect everything."

   Moehn says about 90,000 customers were left in the dark from Friday's storms.

   He says it is one of the top wind-damaging outbreaks in recent memory.  "This certainly ranks up there with the top two or three in the past six or seven years. Again, the amount of sub-transmission with these really high poles, that kind of damage is significant."

   Moehn expects most customers will have power restored by later today, although some may have to wait until tomorrow.  As of 6:00 a.m. today, 36,000 electric customers in St. Charles and St. Louis Counties were still without power.  Another 1,000 customers in Madison County were still in the dark.   

Still no suspects after a 14-year-old was shot outside a North County home last night.

Police say they were called to a home near Lilac and 270 around 10:30 last night. There was a large party taking place at the house. Witnesses said the teen was shot outside the house, but there was no information on who the shooter was.

Police also say they do not know the motive for the attack. The victim is expected to survive.

 

Several lane and ramp closures are headed to 270 in North County Wednesday and Thursday night.

Starting at 10 PM Wednesday, MoDOT crews will close the two left lanes on westbound 270 between 170 and Lindbergh. The closures will end by Thursday at 5 AM.

Then on Thursday night, crews will close the ramp from westbound 270 onto Lindbergh at 9PM. An hour later they will close the right lane between 170 and Lindbergh. Lanes and ramps should reopen by 6AM Friday.

A north county man is headed to jail after a jury convicted him of molesting a child.

Richard Williams was found guilty of five charges in all. Williams molested the child, who was under twelve when the abuse occurred, between 2010 and 2011.

Prosecutors say Williams was friends with one of the child's grandparents. 

 

   A Florissant man is dead after being electrocuted at a north county manufacturing plant.  

   An employee of St. Louis Cold Drawn arrived just after 4:00 a.m. Wednesday and found 55 year old Mach Nguyen lying on the ground next to an electrical box.  Burnt strands of hair were found on one of the coils.

   Nguyen was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Metro reports due to wires down, trees down and debris in roadways following last night's severe weather, especially in the North St. Louis County area, the following MetroBus routes are being rerouted until further notice:

Metro says they are unable to serve the Patterson/Lindbergh area at this time. "We ask our MetroBus customers to be patient and allow extra time for their commutes this morning as the situation no doubt will keep changing with regard to streets being opened and closed. Customers should use extreme care in walking to their bus stops in the areas where storm damage was heavy."   

Metro Call-A-Ride: Customers will be contacted if Metro Call-A-Ride vans do not have access to their streets. 

MetroLink: Normal service this morning. Trains are running on time.

 

 

Radiation exposure from Coldwater Creek isn't responsible for increased cancer rates among north county residents. That's according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services which released the results of a study yesterday.

State epidemiologists studied the incidence and death rates of 27 types of cancer in six ZIP codes along the creek, but found that rates of the two cancer types most commonly caused by radiation exposure - leukemias and thyroid tumors - were the same or lower than would have been expected.

Former north county residents say the study was incomplete, because it didn't count cancer victims who had moved away from the area before getting sick.

Coldwater Creek had been contaminated by nuclear waste after World War II.
