An East St. Louis man is accused of killing a Mizzou student just days before Christmas.

The body of Jarrett Mosby was found in his car on December 23. Investigators with the Major Case Squad say Mosby agreed to meet Deneshion Swope for a drug deal. Police say the two men started to argue and Swope allegedly shot Mosby and moved his car to where it was eventually found.

Swope was on probation for gun charges, is held on a half-million dollar bond, and facing first-degree murder charges. Swope could face up to 60 years in prison if convicted.

Jefferson City district, administrators sued

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - A federal lawsuit accuses the Jefferson City school district and two administrators of not doing enough to prevent a band teacher from having an affair with a student.

The band teacher, Christopher Knehans, pleaded guilty in 2012 to two felony counts of sexual contact with a student.

The Jefferson City News-Tribune reported Tuesday the lawsuit alleges that high school Principal Paul Dodson and Assistant Principal Tammy Ridgeway were warned several times that Knehans and the student were involved. It alleges that the administrators did not intervene to stop the relationship.

Knehans is also named in the lawsuit.

The district's attorney, Chris Rackers, said district officials would not comment on the lawsuit, which was filed earlier this year but amended this month.

A day after a Normandy High School student died following an incident at the school, police are still trying to piece together what happened.

KMOV TV reports police say the 15-year-old student collapsed after another student, 14, reportedly struck him in the chest.

Officers say the interaction was believed to be friendly, and the students were simply horsing around. After the student collapsed, he was taken to St. Louis Children’s Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The incident was believed to have happened shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday. It is unknown if the student suffered from a preexisting medical condition that may have led to the collapse. Police are currently collecting statements from other student witnesses.
