Two area hotels ranked as nation's best

Tuesday, 09 July 2013 08:18 Published in Local News

Two area hotels have been recognized by a national publication as Top Large City Hotels in the United States.

Travel and Leisure magazine ranks the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown St. Louis as the fourth best hotel in the country. The Ritz-Carlton in Clayton ranks 21st on the list. The categories used to rank the hotels were rooms and facilities, location, service, restaurants and food, and value.

The only hotels ranked ahead of the Four Seasons St. Louis were the The Peninsula in Beverly Hills, the Waldorf Astoria in Chicago, and the Mandarin Oriental in Las Vegas.

Todd Combs will spend one year behind bars after admitting to giving alcohol to his stepson hours before the boy's death. A tearful Todd Combs told the judge on Monday that he was just trying to fit in with his kids when he provided them with alcohol during a family outing on the Meramec River last year. His stepson Christopher Marks went missing that day, after family members told police he was drinking beer and acting funny. Christopher's body discovered downstream three days later. The prosecution was asking for a 7-year sentence, but they lacked physical proof that alcohol played a direct roll in the boy's death. By the time Christopher's body was found, it was too badly decomposed to get an accurate alcohol reading. Combs will also serve two years probation, during which time he'll be forced to wear an alcohol monitoring bracelet.

Jury selection is set to begin today for a man charged with shooting a Maryland Heights police officer in the face. According to court records, Sergeant Joe Eagan was doing surveillance work in an unmarked police car on Jennings Station Road near I-70 in December 2010. That's when, police say, 19-year-old Evan Lockhart opened the passenger door and shot Eagan with a .38 caliber pistol. The officer survived the shooting. Lockhart's younger brother and another juvenile were also charged in the attack. Lockhart faces multiple charged including assault on a police officer and armed criminal action.
