Traffic on Kehrs Mill to share one lane

Tuesday, 08 October 2013 14:40 Published in Local News

Drivers in Chesterfield Valley have some headaches ahead.

Starting Wednesday drivers in both directions on Kehrs Mill Road will have to share a single lane of traffic. The consolidation will take place between Jeffrey's Crossing Lane and Courtyard Mill Lane.

The closure is part of an $8.3 million realignment of Kehrs Mill that will make room for a new lane of traffic on the road. Temporary electronic signals will be placed to control the flow of traffic. The one-lane will start at noon Wednesday.

AB InBev loses court battle in Italy

Tuesday, 08 October 2013 13:20 Published in Local News

PRAGUE (AP) - The state-owned Czech brewery Budejovicky Budvar NP says an Italian court has banned its bitter rival Anheuser-Busch InBev from using the Budweiser trademark in that country in the latest ruling in their long legal battle over the brand name.

At the same time, Budvar says the Supreme Court allows the Czech brewer to return to the Italian market with its Budweiser Budvar lager in what Budvar director Jiri Bocek calls "a great victory."

The court's ruling means the end of two cases in which AB InBev challenged Budvar's Budweiser trademark in Italy and the right of its importers to use the names of Bud and Budweiser for selling Czech beer.

Budvar has been fighting for over a century with Anheuser-Busch over use of the Budweiser brand.

Missouri's 8th district up for grabs next year

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - A Jefferson County Democrat says she plans to seek her party's nomination in Missouri's 8th Congressional District election next year.

The Southeast Missourian reports that DeSoto resident Barbara Stocker will formally announce her candidacy on Wednesday morning at the Cape Girardeau federal courthouse. Stocker is a retired biochemist who worked at the former Ralston Purina Company as well as the Monsanto Company in the St. Louis area. She calls herself a "kind-hearted old lady who wants to make government work again."

Salem Republican Rep. Jason Smith won a special election in June and plans to seek re-election in 2014.  He is finishing the unexpired term of Jo Ann Emerson, who resigned.

Missouri Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder is also considering the congressional race after unsuccessfully seeking to replace Emerson.
