AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Texas Gov. Rick Perry has sent an email to friends and top fundraisers promising to reveal "exciting future plans" during an event next week in San Antonio.

The message doesn't provide further details or even a location for the planned Monday midday event, saying simply that more details will be forthcoming. But Perry has said he will soon announce if he plans to seek a fourth full term as governor next year.

The Republican is already the longest-serving governor in Texas history and America's longest-sitting governor.

He also hasn't ruled out a second run for president in 2016, after his previous bid for the GOP White House nomination fizzled in 2011. But Perry has also said he won't decide on that matter until later this year.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - A top Air Force training commander says he's retiring after leading the response to a sexual misconduct scandal involving trainers.

Gen. Edward Rice Jr. has headed the San Antonio-based Air Education and Training Command since November 2010. In a statement, he said he will retire in "several months." He didn't provide a date.

He will be succeeded by Lt. Gen. Robin Rand, now commander of the 12th Air Force at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base near Tucson, Ariz.

Gen. Mark Welsh III, the Air Force chief of staff, told the San Antonio Express-News that it was Rice who worked to get to the bottom of the scandal that implicated 33 basic training instructors. Ex-Air Force Secretary F. Whitten Peters credited Rice with replacing the entire scandal-tainted instructor cadre.

The search for a northern Illinois man and his teenage son who disappeared on the Meramec River will resume after sunrise Wednesday.

St. Louis County Police say the man's wife reported the pair missing early Tuesday afternoon.  She told police she'd last seen her husband, 36 year old Mike Hill and her 16 year old son David near the Pacific Palisades launch two hours before.  They had been gathering up fishing gear.

Police say there's been no sign of them or their fishing gear and so far, they have found nothing to indicate that the pair has drowned.
