Ethiopian plane forced to Geneva; hijacker nabbed

Monday, 17 February 2014 01:26 Published in National News
GENEVA (AP) — An Ethiopian Airlines plane destined for Rome was forced to land early Monday in Geneva, where the hijacker was arrested, authorities said.
The airline said one of its planes had been "forced to proceed to Geneva." Its website said the flight landed safely and "all passengers and crew are safe." It gave no further details.
Police escorted passengers one by one, their hands over their heads, from the taxied plane to waiting vehicles.
Swiss police said the plane made an unscheduled landing in the Swiss city at 6 a.m. (0500 GMT) and the hijacker was arrested. Police spokesman Jean-Philippe Brandt told The Associated Press that "the situation is under control" and nobody on the flight was injured.
Further details of the incident were to be released at a news conference in Geneva at 9 a.m. (0800 GMT).
Cairo airport officials said the pilot of the plane, flight 702, informed the control tower at Abu Simbel in southern Egypt that his plane had been hijacked. The pilot did not ask to land in Egypt, and the plane headed for Libyan airspace, they said. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to brief the media.
Geneva airport said departures would resume at 8.15 a.m. (0715 GMT) and arrivals at 8.45 a.m. (0745 GMT).

A Franklin County toddler who's been missing since Sunday morning is safe.  The Endangered Person Advisory for the girl has been lifted.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Department isn't saying where two-year-old Ellanna Jade Spear was located, or who was with her.

Authorities had issued the advisory after her custodial grandparents received a text message Sunday morning saying that Ellanna wouldn't be returned from a visit with non-custodial grand parents.  The toddler had last been seen Friday in Gray Summit, Missouri.

There's no word yet if any arrests have been made or if anyone will face charges in the case.

All authorities are saying at this time is that the little girl has been found safe.

High Ridge Doc charged with kiddy porn, child sex abuse

Thursday, 13 February 2014 04:24 Published in Local News
A popular High Ridge doctor is facing child sex assault and pornography charges.
Police initially investigated Dr. Craig Pope after child pornography was traced to his computers.  St. Louis County Police Detective Adam Kavanaugh is the investigator on the case.  He spoke with Fox 2 news about the investigation.  "We knew that child pornography was being distributed from Dr. Pope's medical practice, and from his home as well," he said.
During questioning, police say they discovered child sexual abuse against four female family members that dates back to 1986.  The victims ranged in age from 2-16. Police say there had been an investigation in 2006, but no charges because family members were reluctant to testify.
St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCullough says Dr. Pope is facing 16 charges so far, but that could change if more victims come forward.  "Considering the allegations in this case and the evidence in this case, I'd be shocked if there weren't additional victims out there," McCullough said.
Dr. Pope treated many children and teens at the Dillon Plaza Family Medicine Group in High Ridge.  Anyone who may be a victim is urged to call St. Louis County Police at (314) 889-2341.
Pope is currently jailed on a one-million dollar bond.
