Icy roads cause spate of accidents, road closures

Thursday, 28 February 2013 00:48 Published in Local News
As temperatures dip, refreezing of melted snow is becoming a problem on area roads across the bi-state area.

Several accident forced Illinois officials to close the eastbound span of the Jefferson Barracks Wednesday evening. Several cars had slid into the guard rail.

Missouri State troopers closed a portion of Highway 21 in Jefferson County after slick roads caused a multi-vehicle accident along 21 near Schenk Road.

Also, Highway 61 was closed at Wilson Road, about 10 miles north Troy, Missouri after several vehicles slid off the road, some overturning.

The National Weather Services issued a special weather statement Wednesday evening advising drivers to use extra caution, especially on bridges and untreated roadways.
Ellisville Mayor Adam Paul has been suspended pending the outcome of an impeachment hearing.

The City Council voted unanimously Wednesday evening to move forward with a litany of charges against the mayor that include disclosing confidential information and drinking on the job.

Dozens of residents had attended the special council meeting to show support for the Mayor, but it didn't sway the council.

A hearing was scheduled for March 20 to decide whether Paul should be permanently removed from office.

Mayor Paul has been at odds with most of the council over a controversial Walmart TIF since he was elected last April.

Alleged police brutality victim now back in police custody

Wednesday, 27 February 2013 04:19 Published in Local News
The man who's accusing a St. Louis police officer of using excessive force during a July arrest, is again in custody. Thirty-six year old Jerrmaine Lacy was arrested yesterday just after he finished testifying at Officer Charles Proctor's disciplinary hearing.

Chief Sam Dotson acknowledges that a letter from the officer's attorney, Chet Pleban, precipitated Lacy's arrest on four outstanding warrants.

Lacy is accusing Officer Proctor of choking him and slamming his head into a patrol car bumper during a trespassing arrest at Lumiere Place Casino last July. Two of the four-outstanding warrants against Lacy stem from that arrest.
