Woman steals patrol car, rams deputies' cars

NEW MADRID, Mo. (AP) - Charges are expected soon against a woman accused of stealing a Missouri State Highway Patrol car and ramming it into two sheriff's department cars.

The Sikeston Standard Democrat reports that New Madrid County officers were called Nov. 5 to a truck stop on a report that a woman was acting strangely. Officers determined the 24-year-old woman did nothing wrong.

A short time later, officers found the same woman in a vehicle parked on an overpass. She was handcuffed and placed in a Highway Patrol car.

Sheriff Terry Stevens says the woman got out of the handcuffs and stole the patrol car. She rammed a deputy's car as she drove away and another during the chase. The pursuit ended when the patrol car became stuck in a field.

Sikeston man charged in shooting death of wife

SIKESTON, Mo. (AP) - A southeast Missouri man is charged in the shooting death of his wife.

Sikeston police say in a news release that Stevie C. Lott was charged Thursday after his wife was found dead in their home.

Lott faces charges of second-degree murder, armed criminal action, being a felon in possession of a firearm, endangering the welfare of a child and leaving the scene of a shooting.

Capt. Jim McMillen says police found the body of 26-year-old Nyketia Lott with a gunshot wound to the head after being called to the home early Thursday. The Southeast Missourian reports that no one else was in the home when police arrived.

Stevie Lott was found and arrested about two hours after his wife's body was found.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - A Republican state representative from Sikeston has apologized for comparing Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon's support of his decision to veto a tax cut to Adolf Hitler's Nazi propaganda.

Rep. Holly Rehder made the comparison in an email to constituents last week. She issued a statement Monday apologizing to anyone who was "truly offended."

The 44-year-owner of a cable TV contracting company was elected to her first term in November. Rehder represent parts of Scott and Mississippi counties in southeast Missouri.

The Southeast Missourian reports that Rehder plans to vote for an override of Nixon's veto when the Legislature convenes in Jefferson City starting Wednesday.
