St. Louis, MO (KTRS) - Drivers will want to avoid the eastbound lanes of the Blanchette Bridge through Friday afternoon and evening.

MoDOT crews have closed three of the eastbound lanes as well as both ramps from Fifth Street onto eastbound 70 for emergency joint repair. Officials expect to have the lanes reopened by 10 tonight.

MoDOT is advising drivers to use 64, Route 364, and Route 370 as alternates.

Starting at 5:30 AM, all westbound lanes of I-270 will be closed between Interstate 55/70 and Illinois Rte. 157. Crews will be replacing a damaged beam in the Meridian Road Bridge.

A detour is marked directing drivers to use I-55/70 west to I-255 north.

All lanes of Interstate 70 have reopened after a water main break near Jennings Station Road caused a large sink hole to form Wednesday afternoon.

Traffic on westbound I-70 was down to one lane through rush hour and much of the evening.

Missouri American Water crews worked well into the night to fill the hole, re-pave the road and reroute water to local customers.

Water Company Spokesperson Ann Dettmer says the 12 inch line broke because it was old and overused.  Dettmer says as the ground dries up, it doesn't provide as much support.

Engineers will consider whether to replace the main or reroute water service around it permanently.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Illinois has suspended non-emergency roadwork to help keep traffic moving over the July Fourth holiday weekend, the most heavily traveled summer holiday.

The Illinois Department of Transportation says the halt to construction began Wednesday afternoon and will continue through Sunday.

Thousands of motorists are expected to travel on state roadways during the holiday period.

Transportation Secretary Ann Schneider says the construction freeze will also improve safety.

Motorists planning their trips will be able to see a list of construction-related lane closures on the department's website.

It is also reminding drivers that work zone speed limits remain in effect even when workers are not present.
