The St. Clair County States Attorney is considering charges after a six year old child got a hold of a gun and shot an 11 year old boy in Belleville Tuesday night.

Belleville police spokesman Mark Heffernan says it happened when three children were playing upstairs in a home during a family barbecue.  Police say the handgun didn't belong to the owners of the house but may have come from someone who was staying there.

Eleven year old Leonard Smith, Jr. was shot in the head and died on the way to the hospital.

Police say Smith lived in East St. Louis and was visiting the family in Belleville.
