Ellisville Mayor Adam Paul presides again

Wednesday, 12 June 2013 06:56 Published in Local News

Ellisville Mayor Adam Paul says he's ready to do the business of city governance.  That's despite the fact that he has to work with some of the city council members who voted to impeach him in April.  Last night was Paul's first city council meeting since a judge reinstated him Monday while his appeal to overturn the impeachment is reviewed.  A crowd of supporters welcomed Paul back to office. As he took his seat, most of the crowd stood up and applauded him in support.  After the meeting Paul said the city will be back in court this Friday trying to undo the ruling that put him back in office.

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama is inviting law enforcement, labor and business leaders to the White House to show they support an immigration overhaul.

The White House says Obama will speak Tuesday about the economic and national security benefits of a bipartisan bill. The first votes in the full Senate are scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

Obama is highlighting the disparate groups that are backing the bill even though they've opposed each other on immigration in the past.

U.S. Chamber of Commerce Tom Donahue will join Obama, as will AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka. Democratic Mayor Julian Castro of San Antonio and Bush-era Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez also will be on hand. Faith leaders will be represented as well.

The bill creates a path to citizenship for 11 million people in the U.S. illegally.

UPDATE: Ellisville Mayor Adam Paul on with McGraw

Tuesday, 11 June 2013 07:52 Published in Local News

A St. Louis County Circuit Judge has reinstated Ellisville Mayor Adam Paul.

On April 8, Paul was removed from office by the City Council on charges of abuse of power. Yesterday's decision states that the City Council may have violated Paul's due process by changing the charges against Paul without giving him proper notice.

Paul's attorney Chet Pleban tells KTRS's McGraw Milhaven that Adam Paul once again has "full duties and full responsibilities" as the new mayor. Mayor Paul added, "It's going to be nice coming back to a level-headed counsel that's fair and unbiased."

Only two counsel members remain from the April election.

The judge determined that the council may have also committed other improprieties that include: the previously appointed City Attorney disqualifying himself from the removal hearing, but among other things, writing the charges against Paul.

The judge concludes his ruling by saying that Paul's motion to stay the removal is granted and he is reinstated as Mayor.
