A total of six deaths on Missouri roads and waterways this holiday weekend.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says five people died in the more than 270 accidents from Friday night through Monday. There were also 129 arrests for drunken driving.

On the waterways, one man died at Upper Big Lake, just east of Sikeston. Troopers say 64-year-old Oscar Shannon fell overboard and drowned while tying his boat to a tree--he was not wearing a life jacket.

The six deaths represent a decrease from the nine fatalities investigated on roadways over the holiday weekend in 2012.

CHICAGO (AP) - Police say a Chicago man charged in the death of a 6-month old girl was gang member who was retaliating for the theft of a video game console.

Sally Daly, a spokeswoman for the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, says Koman Willis is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm. A bond hearing is set for Tuesday.

Jonylah Watkins was killed March 11 while sitting in her father's lap in a minivan. Police say the dad, Jonathan Watkins, was the intended target. Watkins was seriously wounded.

The shooting took place in the middle of the day in the Woodlawn neighborhood on Chicago's South Side. It was one of several earlier this year that brought attention to the gang violence in Chicago.

NEW YORK (AP) - Police say the Brooklyn Bridge is closed while they investigate an abandoned car.

Traffic in both directions was halted around 6 p.m. Monday. The New York Police Department says the car is about midway along the Manhattan-bound side of the span.

The bomb squad and other investigators headed to the area to check out the vehicle. No further information was immediately available.

The closing came near the end of the Memorial Day weekend. Traffic was backed up on nearby roadways near the bridge.
