Suspect robs Pulaski Bank on Grand

Friday, 07 February 2014 16:54 Published in Local News

A search is underway for a suspect in a St. Louis bank robbery.

St. Louis Police say a man walked into the Pulaski Bank at 3760 South Grand and handed the teller a note demanding money. After getting the cash, the suspect ran away.

The suspect is described as a black male wearing a baseball cap and a black hooded sweater. Anyone with information should contact the St. Louis Police or the FBI.

The St. Louis-area Major Case Squad is examining the death of a registered sex offender.

Authorities found his body on Thursday in a neighborhood near Cahokia, Illinois. Police say 26-year-old William Harriel Jr. was shot to death. Police have not released any information about suspects in the case. Harriel Jr. had previously been convicted for the sexual abuse of a child between 13 and 16 years old.

Anyone with information on the murder is asked to call the Major Case Squad at (618)-825-5700.

Governor Quinn has no plans to debate Democratic rival

Friday, 07 February 2014 16:27 Published in Local News
CHICAGO (AP) - Gov. Pat Quinn won't debate his lone Democratic challenger ahead of next month's primary.

Activist Tio Hardiman wrote Quinn a letter requesting debates ahead of March 18, saying the public "deserves a serious debate."

Quinn campaign spokeswoman Leslie Wertheimer said Friday she hadn't seen the letter but no debates were to "take place."

Hardiman faces an uphill battle. Records for the most recent quarter show Quinn's campaign has $4.5 million in the bank, compared with $550 for Hardiman, who's mostly self-financed.

He's been active in anti-violence efforts, but doesn't have statewide name recognition or party backing.

Hardiman insists he'll run a credible campaign.

The Republican gubernatorial candidates are participating in numerous debates. They are Treasurer Dan Rutherford, businessman Bruce Rauner, and state Sens. Kirk Dillard and Bill Brady.
