Edwardsville man convicted of molesting young girl

Thursday, 12 December 2013 17:38 Published in Local News
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A 66-year-old southwestern Illinois man has been convicted of molesting a preschool-aged girl.

The Telegraph reports Madison County jurors deliberated 45 minutes Thursday before finding Harvey Simington guilty of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

The South Roxana man told investigators in a taped interview played for jurors Wednesday that the victim, then 4, initiated the incident.

Assistant State's Attorney Amy Gabriel called that explanation preposterous.

Authorities say the abuse took place in early 2011 and surfaced about a year later.

The girl, now 6, is in foster care.

Illinois State Police launch conceal carry website

Thursday, 12 December 2013 17:23 Published in Local News

Conceal carry in Illinois is moving closer.

The Illinois State Police say they've launched a new website that explains the application process for Illinoisans. Applications for carrying concealed weapons will be available beginning on January 5. Police say the new website should give would-be applicants additional information about eligibility requirements, application fees, training requirements and official forms. There also will be details for firearms instructors.

Authorities anticipate 400,000 people will apply for concealed carry permits in the first year alone.

You can find the website here.
