Thai police officer killed in clashes in Bangkok

Thursday, 26 December 2013 03:28 Published in National News
BANGKOK (AP) - Thai police say an officer has been killed in clashes between security forces and anti-government protesters in the capital.
Police spokesman Anucha Romyana says the officer died Thursday after being airlifted to a hospital.
It's unclear how the officer died, but police said earlier that an officer had been struck by a bullet during the clashes.
The clashes took place outside a Bangkok sports stadium where candidates were gathering to draw lots for their positions on the ballot ahead of general elections scheduled for Feb. 2.
At least 60 people were injured in the daylong unrest.
The protesters are seeking to topple the government and prevent the elections from taking place as scheduled.

New DNA tests fail to win convicted murderer's release

Thursday, 26 December 2013 03:20 Published in Local News

A man appealing his conviction in the 1982 murder of a St. Louis woman and the sexual assault of her young daughters will remain in prison.  St. Louis Circuit Judge Robin Vannoy on Tuesday rejected a motion from Rodney Lee Lincoln based on new DNA tests.

Lincoln is serving a double life sentence for the murder of 35-year old JoAnn Tate and the sexual assaults of her 7- and 4-year old daughters.

The judge ruled that the DNA evidence doesn't prove Lincoln's innocence.  The results showed no male DNA, just that of the victims.

Prosecutors say Lincoln's conviction came largely because the two girls had identified him as their attacker.

Thursday, 26 December 2013 02:12 Published in Local News
ST. LOUIS (AP) - A St. Louis man is jailed without bond on charges that he fatally shot a woman whose body was found in a car trunk in Madison, Illinois
Prosecutors in St. Louis have charged 39 year old Glynn Smith with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the Nov. 25 death of Sybil Brandon, also of St. Louis.
A witness told police the 50 year old woman was shot while partying at Smith's house in the 4500 block of Margaretta. Brandon's body was found Dec. 20 in the trunk of a car that was about to be towed from Third Street and Jackson.
An autopsy showed that Brandon died of a gunshot wound to the head.
