A tearful plea today from the grandmother of a two-year-old boy who was killed by a hit and run driver Sunday night in Spanish Lake. "Whoever you are, please have a conscience.  (sobs) And just come forward. My grandson did not deserve this."

St Louis County police say two-year-old Darion Griffin ran out into the street around  8 p.m. in the 1500 block of Redmond Road.  Witnesses told police that a white SUV with tinted windows was speeding eastbound on Redmond near Bellefontaine Road when it hit  the toddler and his 17-year-old aunt, Sheria Evans.   Police say Evans was trying to pull the child from the path of the vehicle. The SUV didn't stop.  

Both victims were rushed to a nearby hospital where the boy was pronounced dead. The teen suffered minor injuries.

   STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. (AP) - A teenage driver and two young passengers are dead following a collision on an eastern Missouri highway.

   The Missouri Highway Patrol says the accident happened shortly after noon Thursday on U.S. 61 near Ste. Genevieve, about 50 miles south of St. Louis.

   The patrol says 19 year old Paige Johnson, of Ste. Genevieve, was driving north when she tried to pass another vehicle, lost control and veered into the southbound lanes. Johnson's car collided with a southbound pickup truck.

   Authorities say the crash killed Johnson and her two passengers, 10 year old Clayton Grass and 12 year old Lucas Welton, both of Ste. Genevieve. All three were wearing seatbelts.

   The driver of the pickup truck was flown to a hospital with what the patrol described as moderate injuries.

   COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (AP) - Visitors to Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site on June 23 will get a glimpse of a 1,000 year old sacred celebration of the summer solstice at "Woodhenge."

   Woodhenge is an arrangement of posts standing in line with sunrise on the longest day of the year June 21; the shortest day, in December, and the spring and fall equinoxes, when day and night are the same length.

   These were sacred days to residents of Cahokia Mounds, when it was the largest city north of Mexico.

   Visitors to the site should arrive by 5:20 a.m. to hear an archaeologist explain the monument's discovery and function.

   The Collinsville site is administered by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency.
