News of the Royal Baby was everywhere, TV, radio, and social media. But William and Kate got some time alone with the newest addition to the royal family.
"Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 4.24 p.m."
That is the official announcement that the child third-in-line for the throne was born. The most surprising part of the message was the time--4:24. In an age of Twitter and Facebook, the royal family held back news of the birth for four hours.
Royal historian and researcher, Candace Metz-Longinette-Gahring says the need for boundaries with the press is very important for this prince because of the way his mother, Princess Diana, died. "The paparazzi chased her to her death because they had to have the latest pictures, the latest everything. As the woman lay dying they were taking pictures. I think that fueled his determination that I am going to have a private life", says Metz-Longinette-Gahring.
As for the name of the newest member of the royal family, that's still a secret.
LONDON (AP) - Palace officials say Prince William's wife Kate has given birth to a baby boy.
Officials said Monday the baby was born at 4:24 p.m. and weighs 8 pounds 6 ounces.
The infant will become third in line for the British throne after Prince Charles and William.
Kate checked into a private wing at St. Mary's Hospital in central London early Monday morning.
William spent the long hours of labor at her bedside. This is the couple's first child.
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Officials say George Zimmerman helped rescue four people from an overturned vehicle last week, just days after he was cleared of all charges in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.
Seminole County Sheriff's spokeswoman Kim Cannaday said in a statement Monday that deputies responding to the wreck found Zimmerman and another man had already helped the couple and their two children out of the flipped SUV.
The sheriff's office report says Zimmerman spoke with a deputy at the scene and then left. Zimmerman did not see the crash happen.
Zimmerman had been charged with second-degree murder in the 17-year-old's death. His acquittal prompted rallies nationwide calling for a civil rights probe, and the case has sparked debate about race and self-defense laws.
