Monday is the deadline to sign up for private health insurance in the new online markets created by President Barack Obama's health care law. So far, about 4 out of every 5 people enrolling have qualified for tax credits to reduce the cost of their premiums.

Here's what you need to know:

— The deadline is Mar. 31 at midnight EDT for the states where the federal government is running the sign-up website; states running their own exchanges set their own deadlines.

— You can sign up online by going to HealthCare.gov or your state insurance exchange. If you don't know what your state marketplace is called, HealthCare.gov will direct you.

—You can call 1-800-318-2596 to sign up by phone or get help from an enrollment specialist.

—Check online for sign-up centers that may be open locally, offering in-person assistance.

—If you started an application by Monday but didn't finish, perhaps because of errors, missing information or website glitches, you can take advantage of a grace period. The government says it will accept paper applications until April 7 and take as much time as necessary to handle unfinished cases on HealthCare.gov.

—Be prepared for the possibility of long wait times.

NEW YORK (AP) — A man says his 86-year-old grandfather shot him in the head, killed his girlfriend and then took his own life out of frustration that the couple was living in a family home in New York City.

Michael Feliciano spoke to the Daily News from his hospital bed for a story published Sunday.

Police say Feliciano's grandfather, Heriberto Pagan, unleashed the gunfire on the couple and himself Friday.

The 47-year-old Feliciano and his 28-year-old girlfriend, Claritle Huerta, were living in a Staten Island home owned by Feliciano's ailing mother. Feliciano says his grandfather wanted them out because of Feliciano's past drug problems.

He says Huerta called him Friday to tell him his grandfather wanted to talk to him. He says he opened the door, "and that was it."

The couple's 4-month-old son was found unharmed inside the house.

LISBON, Maine (AP) — A Maine man in search of a valuable mineral cut open a dead porcupine on the side of the road and unexpectedly pulled out its baby.

Jared Buzzell, of Lisbon, says he was searching for wild mushrooms Thursday when he saw a porcupine get hit by a car in Minot. Buzzell says he'd heard that a valuable mineral deposit used in Chinese medicine formed in the stomachs of porcupines.

He then cut open the dead porcupine to search for the mineral and instead found the baby.

He tells WMTW-TV (bit.ly/1hlWRUl) he cut the umbilical cord and thought the baby porcupine was dead until he started massaging it and it began breathing.

Buzzell is caring for the baby at home and plans to give it to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator.
