A fatal accident shut down Eastbound I-44 on Saturday.
A man driving a pickup truck ran into an empty police car that was parked there to divert traffic after an earlier accident. The truck ricocheted into a tractor trailer. The pickup then burst into flames.
The driver of the pickup truck died at the scene.
Emergency personnel evacuated a pilot from a Jerseyville corn field after his plane crashed.
Jersey County Sheriff Department says the man took off in the single-seat experimental plane around 10:30 this morning from the Jerseyville Municipal Airport. Shortly after takeoff the pilot says the plane's engine had problems and before he could return to the airport, the engine died. The plane crashed into a nearby cornfield.
The pilot was hurt in the accident, but authorities say the injuries are not serious.
A 12 year old Jefferson County girl is fighting for her life after being struck by a car while riding her bike Wednesday afternoon. It happened about 2:30 p.m. in the 4000 block of West Rock Creek Road near Romaine Creek Road.
The Missouri Highway Patrol says a 72 year old woman was rounding a curve when she struck Isabella Marco. Investigators say Marco was riding her bike eastbound in a westbound lane when she was struck head-on.
The girl was airlifted to St. Louis Children's Hospital where she's listed in critical condition.
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) -- A southeast Missouri woman is facing manslaughter charges for allegedly running over her lover.
The Southeast Missourian reports that 29-year-old Angelia Hanson of Cape Girardeau was charged Friday with first-degree involuntary manslaughter in the death of 43-year-old Jody Lane.
Police say Hanson backed a Dodge Durango over Lane Friday morning outside their home. Hanson told police she accidentally ran over Lane after an argument. Lane was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.
Hanson does not yet have an attorney. She is jailed on $100,000 bond.
A tragic accident in Rolla over the weekend as a mother accidentally ran over her daughter on Sunday morning.
The Rolla Police say the 24-year-old mother was backing her van out of parking space, did not see her two-year-old daughter, and hit her. The toddler was taken to the hospital where she died.
An investigation into the accident continues.
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A southwestern Illinois man pleaded guilty during his trial on charges that he drunkenly caused a 2010 two-vehicle wreck that killed the other driver.
Thirty-six-year-old James Griesbaum of Aviston pleaded guilty to two felony DUI-related counts.
A spokeswoman for the Madison County State's Attorney's Office tells the Belleville News-Democrat that Griesbaum will be sentenced to simultaneous prison terms of three years and six months in prison on each count.
Authorities contend that Griesbaum was drunk in February 2010 in Madison County when his pickup truck collided head-on with a vehicle driven by Barbara Green of Trenton. She died.
Griesbaum's trial began Tuesday with jury selection and was to have gone to the jury for deliberation as early as Friday.
Griesbaum's sentencing date was not immediately set.
East St. Louis Police are holding a man for allegedly attacking two officers at a crime scene.
Police say Darryl Robinson drove his car into a crime scene area on July 5. When officers with the East St. Louis Police Department and Illinois State Police tried to remove Robinson from his vehicle, they say he tried to drive off and hit two officers. The officers suffered only minor injuries, but Robinson was able to drive away. He was arrested earlier this week.
He now faces three charges connected to the incident.
A total of three people now face charges connected to last week's fatal hit-and-run accident outside of Cahokia.
Kevin Powell was charged with several crimes Thursday, including reckless homicide, for allegedly hitting and killing 9-year-old Fabian Teson last Thursday.
A passenger in the vehicle, 17-year-old Devan Harris, was charged with two counts of obstruction justice.
25-year-old Alysa Sherwood owns the car that Powell was driving. She faces charges for letting him use the car.
St. Clair County officials say charges could come as soon as Thursday against a teenage driver suspected in a hit and run accident that killed a 9 year old boy last week.
Authorities located 17 year old Kevin Powell earlier Wednesday afternoon. Police started looking for Powell after they found the vehicle believed involved in the accident yesterday.
Nine year old Fabian Teson was hit while riding is bike near Cahokia last Thursday. Teson died at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital on Saturday. His funeral is set for Thursday, one week after he was struck.
