Man charged in connection to mother's murder

St. Louis, MO (KTRS) - A St. Louis man is facing first-degree murder charges in his mother's death.
 
Prosecutors allege that Courtney Cunningham allegedly shot his mother in their North St. Louis home. Investigators say the shooting happened sometime between Sunday night and Tuesday morning. Cunningham was charged Wednesday in the death of 56-year-old Joyce Boxx.
 
Cunningham is held without bond.

16-year-old killed in North St. Louis

St. Louis, MO (KTRS) - St. Louis Homicide detectives are on the scene of a shooting in North St. Louis.

 

Police say 16-year-old Noah Barnes was shot several times and was pronounced dead at the scene. Neighbors in the 1900 block of Clara say they heard five to six shots and then saw a person laying face down in the street.

 

Police have not released any information on suspects.

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A southwestern Illinois man has been ordered to spend nine years in prison for the debilitating 2011 beating of a baby.
 
The Alton Telegraph reports that 26-year-old Matthew Fields of Hartford was sentenced this week after pleading guilty to a count of aggravated battery of a child.
 
Prosecutors say Fields was alone with the then-9-week-old baby in October 2011 when he allegedly shook and squeezed the child.
 
Authorities say the baby sustained head trauma and developmental delays.
 
Fields will have to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence and must register as a violent offender for 10 years.

St. Louis, MO (KTRS) - Police have identified the child who was shot and killed in his home Wednesday night.

 

11-year-old Anotonio Johnson was sitting at his computer when a shooter fired between eight and ten shots into the house. Police Chief Sam Dotson says Antonio died at the scene. Dotson says the gunman climbed onto the ledge of a side window, broke the glass and started shooting.

 

There were seven people in the house including a 4 year old, two teenagers,  three adults and the 11-year-old victim. One of the teens had been shot in a prior incident and police are hoping he can provide some useful information about last night's attack.

St. Louis, MO (KTRS) - A suspect is in custody after the body of a woman was found just a few blocks away from the Edward Jones Dome.

 

Police say the woman was beaten to death and have a male suspect in custody. St. Louis homicide detectives are currently investigating this case.

Man stabbed to death outside of Illinois gun club

MOUNT VERNON, Ill. (AP) - Authorities in southern Illinois' Jefferson County say a man has been stabbed to death outside a gun club.
 
Coroner Eddie Joe Marks says 37-year-old Eric Houser died at a hospital after the altercation Tuesday night at the Mount Vernon Gun and Sportmen's Club.
 
There's no immediate word on any arrests or charges.

WARRENTON, Mo. (AP) - An 8-year-old eastern Missouri boy has died from injuries suffered in a stabbing during a domestic dispute.
 
Warren County authorities say Mason Vandiver died about 1 a.m. Tuesday at Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center in St. Louis. He had been on life-support since the attack Friday night at a home near Jonesburg.
 
Mason's mother, 29-year-old Lexy Vandiver, died in the stabbing, along with her co-worker who was visiting the home, 22-year-old Tara Lynn Fifer of Montgomery City.
 
Murder charges were filed Saturday against 23-year-old Shawn Kavanagh of Bellflower. His estranged wife, 27-year-old Jessica Kavanagh, also was stabbed and remains hospitalized. Authorities say she is expected to recover.

Woman accused of shooting, killing aunt

St. Louis, MO (KTRS) - Police say a 23-year-old woman shot and killed her aunt on Sunday.

 

Jamie Onkle is charged with second-degree murder connected to the death of Wendy Hall-Onkle. It's not clear what led to the shooting. Onkle is held on a quarter-million dollar bond.

Investigators are now treating the death of 1-year-old child, who was found unconcious in a north St. Louis  home Tuesday morning, a homicide.
 
Detectives say that Jabria Phillips died of blunt force trauma. Emergency crews were called to the home around 3:30 this morning. They found Jabria with no vital signs. She was pronounced dead at the hospital. Police say the girl had been displaying signs of illness throughout the day Monday.
 
Jabria's grandmother, Brenda Baker learned of the girl's death through news reports. She told Fox 2 that Jabria's father, her son, died last year.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — A Springfield man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing his roommate so he could steal his heroin.

The Springfield News-Leader reports 40-year-old Jarrod Sirois was found guilty in December of first-degree murder in the beating death of 45-year-old Robert Pugh.

Judge Calvin Holden sentenced Sirois on Friday after denying his motion for a new trial.

Sirois told authorities he killed Pugh so he could steal his drugs, with the intention of overdosing on it, July 6, 2012.

Sirois admitted using a metal pipe to hit Pugh in the head three or four times while Pugh was asleep on the couch.

He told police he was only trying to knock Pugh out.
