Three teens held in connection to carjacking

Two 15-year-olds and 13-year-old are in custody connected to a carjacking Tuesday night.

The incident happened outside of a Dollar General store in Fairview Heights. A mother and her 7-year-old son say the suspects pulled a gun on them, demanded money, and sped off in her car. An officer in the area tried to stop the car, but the suspects did not stop. The driver lost control of the car and it slid off the road. After a brief manhunt, police captured the teens.

Police say all three teens had “airsoft guns,” which look like real guns. All three teens are being held in St. Clair County. One suspect was already on home confinement for a previous crime.

MANCHESTER, Conn. (AP) — Police in Connecticut say a man they suspect killed three women took his own life minutes after officers confronted him.

Manchester police say they arrived on the scene about 9:40 p.m. Saturday, minutes after getting a 911 call. They say the armed suspect was leaving an apartment building carrying a young child. Police say shortly after police confronted the man, he put down the 13-month-old child and shot himself. The child was unharmed.

Police say an officer also fired at the man, but apparently missed.

Authorities say the officers checked the apartment building and found three deceased women in one unit. They apparently had been shot.

VERSAILLES, Mo. (AP) — One of three suspects in the February killings of a central Missouri couple has pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder.

The Lake Sun Leader reports that 43-year-old Derrell Spellmeyer, of Eldon, also pleaded guilty Thursday to armed criminal action. Sentencing is scheduled Jan. 16 in Morgan County Circuit Court.

Spellmeyer was accused of shooting 53-year-old Carol Wilson and stabbing 66-year-old Freddie Wilson on Feb. 4 at their home in Versailles (vur-SAYLZ'). He was arrested by detectives responding to a call from Carol Wilson saying she had been shot.

Forty-five-year-old Garland Mitchell and 28-year-old Mandy Mitchell, both of Jefferson City, are awaiting trial on the same charges.

The Mitchells told investigators the three went to the home to obtain drugs, but that only Spellmeyer went inside.
