Woman found dead in rental van identified

  Metro-east authorities aren't sure how a woman found slumped over the wheel of a rental van in a store parking lot actually died.  

   The Madison County Coroner's Office has identified the victim as 42 year old Frances M. Ragan of East Alton.  The coroner's officer reportst that an initial autopsy found no signs of violence or trauma. Further testing, including toxicology tests, will be performed.  

   An employee of the Dollar General store in the 400 block of Broadway in South Roxana had discovered the woman Saturday morning and called police.  

   Investigators are asking anyone who spoke to Frances Ragan over the past several days to contact them.

STL man accused of killing woman, ditching body

   ST. LOUIS (AP) - A St. Louis man is jailed without bond on charges that he fatally shot a woman whose body was found in a car trunk in Madison, Illinois
   Prosecutors in St. Louis have charged 39 year old Glynn Smith with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the Nov. 25 death of Sybil Brandon, also of St. Louis.
   A witness told police the 50 year old woman was shot while partying at Smith's house in the 4500 block of Margaretta. Brandon's body was found Dec. 20 in the trunk of a car that was about to be towed from Third Street and Jackson.
   An autopsy showed that Brandon died of a gunshot wound to the head.
