MO attorney general targets meth "smurfers"

Wednesday, 13 March 2013 10:15 Published in Local News
Missouri's attorney general is looking for new ways to curb mathamphetatime use in the state.

At a news conference today, attorney general Chris Koster will outline initiatives against "smurfing," a practice that involves recruiting people to purchase medicines containing pseudoephedrine.

The campaign calls partly for Missouri pharmacies to display warnings at cash registers letting would-be smurfers know their actions have serious consequences.

Body of missing woman found near Jackson, MO

Wednesday, 13 March 2013 09:50 Published in Local News
JACKSON, Mo. (AP) — A body found in Cape Girardeau County has been identified as that of a southeast Missouri woman reported missing last week. The Sikeston Standard Democrat (http://bit.ly/YaBFnC ) reports that 26-year-old Jordan Miller of Miner, Mo., was found dead Monday on a county road near Jackson. Cape Girardeau County Coroner John Clifton says Miller died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Miller was reported missing Thursday.
VATICAN CITY (AP) — Cardinals have begun filing into the Sistine Chapel for the conclave to elect the next pope amid deep divisions and uncertainty over who will lead the 1.2 billion-strong Catholic church and tend to its many problems. Led by prelates holding a crucifix and candles, the 115 scarlet-robed cardinals chanted the Litany of Saints, the hypnotic Gregorian chant imploring the intercession of the saints to help them choose the next pope. They then took their places in the chapel frescoed by Michelangelo with scenes of "Creation" and "The Last Judgment." Benedict XVI's surprise resignation has thrown the church into turmoil and exposed deep divisions among cardinals grappling with whether they need a manager to clean up the Vatican's dysfunctional bureaucracy or a pastor who can inspire Catholics at a time of waning faith.
