WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker John Boehner (BAY-nur) says he doesn't know when the government shutdown will end and says it's up to President Barack Obama to start negotiations.
The Ohio Republican said Sunday that he will not allow his GOP-led House to vote on a bill reopening the government without serious talks about spending. He also says he will not go forward with a bill increasing the government's borrowing authority without a similar conservation.
The government partially shut down last week amid Washington gridlock and faces a make-or-break deadline later this month about the nation's borrowing power. Republicans have refused to budge without concessions on Democrats' health care law. Democrats have resisted GOP efforts to dismantle that health care law.
Boehner spoke to ABC's "This Week."
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — The Silicon Valley has had a men's fashion problem dating back to its founders.
Tech companies from their inception went out of their way to be different from the rest of the corporate world. No more top-down management, no more cubicles — and no more business suits.
Thus leather sandals, elastic-waist jeans and baggy, faded T-shirts became ubiquitous, and brilliant innovation took place in the dumpiest of outfits.
But that's changing as a younger generation of engineers and designers have arrived in outfits that coordinate, and the market has responded to this new attitude among the region's rising nerds, geeks and hackers with new online men's stores, personal style consultants and an array of high-end shops at Northern California's biggest mall.
BUENA VISTA, Colo. (AP) — More than a thousand people gathered in a small Colorado mountain town Saturday to remember five members of the same family who were killed by a massive rock slide on a popular hiking trail.
Monday's slide across the trail to Agnes Vaille Falls in south-central Colorado's San Isabel National Forest killed 46-year-old Dwayne Johnson, 45-year-old Dawna Johnson and their 18-year-old daughter, Kiowa-Rain Johnson, all of Buena Vista.
The other victims were identified as 10-year-old Baigen Walker and 22-year-old Paris Walkup, both of Birch Tree, Missouri. They were nephews of Dwayne and Dawna Johnson.
The slide also injured 13-year-old Gracie Johnson, who attended Saturday's memorial in Buena Vista. She told rescuers her father saved her when he jumped on top of her as boulders began to crash down around them.
