Suspect arrested for burning 'Zeus' the dog to death

Wednesday, 02 October 2013 17:44 Published in Local News

Charges are filed against a man accused of lighting a dog on fire.

A north St. Louis resident came home in late August to find that his dog, a pit bull named Zeus, was missing. The owner's neighbor called police to say he found Zeus badly burned in the back yard. The Humane Society took Zeus and was forced to put the dog down due to the severity of the burning.

Prosecutors say Wesley Reid attacked the dog. Investigators examined Reid's phone and discovered he was in the area at the time of the attack and he sent text messages indicating he planned on burning the dog.

Reid faces up to four years in prison if convicted.
