Officials are responding to complaints that the city's tap water does not taste great.

The St. Louis Water Division posted a statement to its website that the taste is due to the growth of some matter in area rivers. Crews plans to flush the system with additional chemicals and the taste should be back to normal with a few days.

Officials stress that the water is safe to drink and meets all federal and state requirements.

FREDERICKTOWN, Mo. (AP) - Twenty-four years after a 14-year-old girl disappeared from near her eastern Missouri home, leads still trickle in concerning the disappearance of Gina Dawn Brooks.

Gina was last seen on Aug. 5, 1989. Her red bicycle was found on the street in her hometown of Fredericktown. There were reports of a light blue, gray or green station wagon at about the time a witness heard a scream in the neighborhood.

FBI spokeswoman Rebecca Wu told the Daily Journal newspaper in Park Hills, Mo. that new information still comes in from time to time, and agents investigate every tip.

Bryant Squires reportedly made a deathbed confession in 1996, indicting an associate, Nathan "Danny" Williams, but first-degree murder charges against Williams were eventually dropped due to lack of evidence.

Governor Pat Quinn signs road safety bills

Monday, 05 August 2013 17:32 Published in Local News

CHICAGO (AP) - Gov. Pat Quinn has signed three road safety bills into law, including one beefing up adult drivers' education requirements.

Another lets the Secretary of State's office reject driver's permits or licenses for drivers 18 years and younger who have pending citations. The law was prompted by a 15-year-old who was seriously injured when hit by a teen driver. That driver received a license days later.

The third law deals with limiting court supervision as a sentence when a driver is charged in a fatal accident. The law was named for a woman who was killed by a distracted driver.  The driver was sentenced to court suspension which means he didn't get a conviction on his record. The law takes effect Jan 1.
