The Ellisville City Council is moving forward with an effort to oust Mayor Adam Paul. The council voted 5-2 Wednesday night to have the city attorney draft an impeachment resolution against Paul. Only Paul and Councilwoman Linda Reel opposed the resolution.

The move comes just two days after the Ellisville Charter Enforcement Commission unanimously recommended that the impeachment complaint be thrown out.

Ironically, it's Martin who will present the resolution at the March 6th council meeting.

The specifics of the complaint against the mayor haven't been released, but Martin has clashed frequently with other council members over a controversial Walmart TIF that was passed last year. Martin had been elected last spring after campaigning against the TIF.

The mayor's attorney, Chet Pleban, says the impeachment effort will be met with litigation.

Bomb scare closes downtown streets

Police say a tense situation at Peabody Plaza Wednesday evening was a false alarm.

The St. Louis City police bomb and arson squad was called to the downtown plaza just after 6:00 pm because of a suspicious backpack. Police sealed off the area around 7th street and Market along with 8th and Chestnut as a precaution.

Peabody Energy has been the target of recent labor protests.

A search of the backpack, revealed that it contained only clothes.
Two St. Louis Police officers are in the hospital after being shot Wednesday night while answering a home alarm call in Baden. The officers had been called to a boarded up home in the 900 block of Elias Avenue about 11 p.m.

Police say a man at the home fired shots at the officers without warning.

The officers returned fire, striking the suspect several times. He's in critical condition at St. Louis University Hospital.

Both officers were taken to Barnes Hospital. A 31 year old female officer was shot in the foot. A 26 year old male officer was shot in the back. Both are expected to recover.
