EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A Madison County judge who lost his job in June after failing to win enough support from more senior jurists has been appointed to his old position.

Donald Flack was one of five associate judges who had to step down after falling short of the required 60 percent vote of approval among the 3rd Judicial Circuit’s nine senior judges. The judicial circuit also includes neighboring Bond County.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports Flack was one of three new associate judges whose appointments were announced Friday by the Illinois Supreme Court.

Unlike the retention vote, selection as an associate judge only requires a majority vote from the circuit judges.

Forty-six people applied for the five vacancies, each of which has been filled. Associate judges serve four-year terms.
