(KTRS) – A pair of Missouri parents could be headed to prison after they were convicted of child endangerment.

A jury deliberated for two-and-a-half hours today before finding Terry and Victoria Smith guilty. Police were called to the Smiths’ O’Fallon home in 2010 to investigate a report of child abuse. Inside the home, police found the Smiths’ autistic son locked in a makeshift cage in the basement. Prosecutors argued during the trial that the Smiths used the child to collect aid from the government.

Jurors are now considering sentencing–the Smiths face up to seven years in prison.
