( KTRS ) More than 60 arrests were made Monday as protesters took to the streets chanting, blocking traffic and at times confronting police.

St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger, on Monday, authorized an executive order placing the St. Louis County Police Department in charge of protest safety in the City of Ferguson.

Around 5:30pm. yesterday, multiple police departments were dispatched to the area of Highway 70 and Earth City Expressway for a group of protestors shutting down eastbound and westbound traffic.

Again at 8pm the St. Louis County Police Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the 9200 block of W. Florissant as protesters were standing in the roadway. Officers arrived on the scene and talked the protesters onto the sidewalk.

St. Louis County Police spokesman Shawn McGuire reports that Between 9:30PM and 12:15AM. 23 arrests were made as protesters on W. Florrissant Ave began throwing bottles, frozen water bottles, and rocks at the police. One St. Louis County Police Officer was hit in the chest with a small chunk of concrete, but was not injured.

At no time was any smoke or tear gas used.
