Police Release More Information On The Death Investigation Of Auditor Tom Schweich

Evidence shows that the death of Missouri Auditor Tom Schweich on February 26th was a suicide.  That’s according to information released by investigators  during a Tuesday afternoon press conference.

Detective Lieutenant Don Bass of the Clayton Police Department said that a Gun Shot Residue test, also known as a GSR was performed.  Results indicated the presence of residence on the hands of Schweich.

An autopsy also found the Manner of Death as “Suicide” and the immediate cause was a gunshot wound to the head. No illegal drugs were found in his system.  Police do say that Schweich was taking three prescribed medications. One was for Crohn’s Disease, another for pain relief, and a third medication to stimulate his appetite.

Investigators also say that two cell phones, a laptop, and a desktop computer were examined and no evidence was found regarding a motive or a suicide note.

Schweich had expressed thoughts of suicide to family members in the past according to investigators.

The Clayton Police Department is still awaiting results from a DNA submission to the St. Louis County Police Lab regarding the fired handgun. Bullet fragment comparison results are also pending.
