Poll: Can Supreme Court be fair in health law case?

WASHINGTON (AP) — A poll finds that many people in the United States question whether the Supreme Court can rule fairly in the latest litigation that’s jeopardizing President Barack Obama’s health care law.

The Associated Press-GfK poll finds that only 1 person in 10 is highly confident the justices will rely on objective interpretations of the law instead of their personal opinions.

Nearly half of those questioned aren’t confident about the court’s impartiality. Opponents of the law tend to have less confidence.

The case challenges subsidies for millions of people in the more than 30 states that did not set up their own health insurance exchanges.

The poll found that 56 percent want the court to keep the subsidies flowing. That’s in sync with the Obama administration’s position.
