St. Louis, MO (KTRS) – Detectives in Clayton say they are close to ending their probe into the suicide of Auditor Tom Schweich.
Investigators say they have yet to find an explanation as to why the gubernatorial hopeful took his life. The AP reports that Schweich’s work computers contained no evidence of a scandal or extramarital affair.
Minutes before his death, the Auditor today a reporter that he was prepared to go public with allegations that the state Republican Party chairman told donors that Schweich was Jewish. Schweich was Christian but had Jewish ancestry and perceived the remarks as anti-Semitism. The state’s GOP chairman has denied engaging in a whisper campaign.
