Proposed Missouri-Columbia frat rules changes draw criticism

(KTRS) – Fraternities at the University of Missouri in Columbia could face new restrictions on alcohol and when women are able to visit.

The Post-Dispatch reports that the rules are meant to cut down on sexual assaults. One of the proposals would prohibit women from entering fraternities during peak party times from late Thursday through early Sunday. The spokesman for the Missouri Fraternity Alumni Consortium says the school would be acting proactively, although no changes have been finalized.

Students will get an opportunity to weigh in on the plan later this month. The university’s Panhellenic Association says the rules suggest that women cannot make safety choices for themselves.
