Report finds Missouri has some of lowest “sin taxes” in the nation

(KTRS) – Missouri has some of the lowest so-called sin taxes in the nation. A new report from the financial services provider Credio created the rankings by looking at state’s taxes on tobacco products, liquor, wine, beer, and state sales tax.

Missouri benefited in the report from the lowest cigarette tax rate in the nation at just 17-cents per pack. In Illinois, it is a different story, the state earned the seventh spot. The report cited the state’s high tobacco and sales tax.

MISSOURI RATES:
Tobacco Tax (Dollars per Pack): $0.17
Liquor Tax (Dollars per Gallon): $2.00
Wine Tax (Dollars per Gallon): $0.42
Beer Tax (Dollars per Gallon): $0.06
State Sales Tax: 4.23%

ILLINOIS RATES:
Tobacco Tax (Dollars per Pack): $1.98
Liquor Tax (Dollars per Gallon): $8.55
Wine Tax (Dollars per Gallon): $1.39
Beer Tax (Dollars per Gallon): $0.23
State Sales Tax: 6.25%
