KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Playing its second match in four days, Saint Louis FC falls to MLS side Sporting Kansas City 1-0 on Tuesday night at Sporting Park, ending its run in the 2015 U.S. Open Cup.

A late goal by Sporting KC was enough to propel the hosts to a victory in front of a record crowd of 19,298, the largest ever for a 4th Round U.S. Open Cup match.
“We didn’t have to be spectacular for 90 minutes but had to be really good in three or four key moments,” Head Coach Dale Schilly said after the match. “We weren’t good enough in those moments.”

After a scoreless 69 minutes, Sporting KC found the back of the net with a header from midfielder Graham Zusi.
Benny Fielhaber gathered the ball at the top of the penalty area and whipped a cross to Zusi who was able to power past Mark Pais to put the hosts up 1-0 in the 70th minute. Zusi’s goal was all Sporting needed to advance.

Possibly the best chance of the game for Saint Louis came in the second half, when Jermie Lynch was unable to head Patrick Doody’s cross on frame from eight yards.
“The atmosphere was cool, you can’t help but notice it,” Schilly said. “Hearing the St. Louligans and The Cauldron makes me hope that we can meet each other in these types of matches again and create a great rivalry.”

Saint Louis FC returns home for USL regular season play on Friday, when it faces Colorado Switchbacks FC at Marshall Wireless Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM.
