Show-Me $15 Holds Rally Outside Of St. Louis City Hall

St. Louis, MO (KTRS)  City leaders are being urged take action on raising St. Louis’ minimum wage.

Members of Show-Me-Fifteen and other supporters held a rally outside of St. Louis City Hall Wednesday afternoon. This effort was to call on Mayor Francis Slay and Board of Aldermen President Lewis Reed to hold a special session to pass a bill to increase the city’s minimum wage.

Fifty eight-year-old Betty Douglas, a seven-year employee at a McDonald’s in south St. Louis, says not only would a raise in the minimum wage help the workers, but possibly reduce the city’s crime rate. Douglas adds, “When you don’t have anything to do, what else is it but trouble. Trouble is looking for you all the time.”

Douglas says she takes two buses and MetroLink to get to her job and only gets 20 hours a week on average.

Kansas City officials recently voted in favor of raising the minimum wage to $13 per hour by 2020. The St. Louis Board of Aldermen went on summer break two weeks ago after failing to pass a compromise bill on the issue.
