A five-year-old boy is dead, his mother's fiance facing charges for allegedly beating him to death.

Tavon Ludy from Glen Carbon is charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Police say Ludy punched Torian Whittaker, in the chest Monday night. The boy was rushed to the hospital where he died. Investigators say Whittaker and his 7-year-old brother both showed signs of routine abuse at the hands of Ludy.

The boys' mother, Toria Coleman, is also facing charges, police say she knew of the abuse but did nothing to stop it. The surviving brother is in protective custody.

A St. Louis man convicted of brutally beating to death his 2-year-old son will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

The reasons may be unknown--an alcohol fueled rage or bipolar disorder--but a jury has made sure 32 Aaron Lucy of south city  will never hurt another child.

He was found guilty of first-degree murder and four felony counts of child abuse, evidence tampering and armed criminal action in the death of his son, Kyle Lucy. He has no chance for parole.

The boy's mother,30-year-old Amanda Newman, told the St Louis Post Dispatch she was satisfied with the life sentence because she believes it will keep Lucy away from their daughter, Abby, who is now 7.

Prosecutors said Lucy beat Kyle to death the day after Christmas 2010 while the family was at a holiday play.

Authorities said Lacy left bruises and scrapes on almost every part of the toddler's body and caused two skull fractures and a fatal brain injury. Blood was found throughout the apartment, including on the back of a picture frame, a broken drawer an overturned television that had been thrown across the floor.

Lucy's mother argued he should be in a mental hospital rather than prison.

It's day two in the trial of a 20-year-old man accused of killing an elderly Vietnamese man in the so-called "knockout game."

Prosecutors say Elex Murphy was one of four teenagers who randomly attacked 72-year-old Hoang Nguyen in April of 2011.

According to police, Nguyen was walking home from a grocery store with his wife in broad daylight near Spring and Chippewa, when then 18-year-old Murphy and the group of teens attacked the couple. Police say Murphy punched Nguyen in the head and then punched his wife in the eye. Nguyen later died at St. Louis University Hospital.

In the "knockout game" people are chosen at random and beaten, with the attacks often captured on cell phone video.

Murphy wept silently in court yesterday as Nguyen's widow described the deadly attack.
