St. Patrick's Day weekend in St. Louis

You don't have to be Irish to enjoy the many St. Patrick's Day events planned for the St. Louis area this weekend.
Would-be revelers heading to the St. Patrick's Day run and parade in Downtown St. Louis  Saturday are encouraged to ride MetroLink or MetroBus to avoid the hassles of parking, closed streets and traffic jams.
Metro also advises St. Louis residents that some bus routes will be affected by the Ancient Order of Hibernians    St. Patrick's Day Parade in Dogtown Monday.  A list of the affected bus lines can be found at the Metro St. Louis website.
Get more information about St. Patrick's Day holiday events at the CVC's website.

Governor Nixon appoints new CVC chairman

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Governor Jay Nixon has appointed a St. Louis County attorney to be the new chairman of the St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission.

Nixon on Friday appointed Andrew Leonard. He replaces Robert O'Loughlin, who resigned Thursday after 35 years on the board, including five as chairman.

The CVC promotes the St. Louis region as a convention and meeting site and a tourism destination.

Leonard is a partner in the Chesterfield law firm of McCarthy, Leonard, Kaemmerer. His term on the CVC expires September 19th, 2015.

The commission consists of 11 members, five of whom are appointed by the St. Louis mayor, five by the St. Louis County executive, and one by the governor. The governor's appointee serves as chairman.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The organization that runs the Edward Jones Dome has made it official: The facility will not get a publicly funded $700 million upgrade that the St. Louis Rams requested.

St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission President Kathleen Ratcliffe informed the Rams of the decision in a letter dated Tuesday.

It was no surprise. After arbitrators ruled in favor of the Rams' plan over a much more modest CVC proposal, the CVC said in February it was unlikely to implement the plan.

The decision allows the Rams to break their lease with the dome after the 2014 season, creating the possibility that the Rams could leave St. Louis.

The team's offices were closed Friday for the long Fourth of July holiday and a spokesman was unreachable.

A report out today says that the St. Louis Convention and Visitor's Commission will have to pay $2 million of the Rams' lawyer's fees.

The story was originally reported by the St. Louis Business journal. The two sides met with an arbitrator earlier this year to determine the best plan to upgrade the Edwards Jones Dome. The Rams won that arbitration and according to the original lease, the side that won any arbitration would eligible for reimbursement to cover legal fees. The arbitrator settled on a reimbursement of $2 million.

The CVC is funded by taxpayers.

The St. Louis Regional Convention and Sports Complex Authority has hired investment banking firm Goldman Sachs to help find a way to keep the Rams in the Edward Jones Dome, or at least in St. Louis.

Goldman will advise the authority on how to pay for dome renovations and increase revenue if the Rams leave the building. The authority board approved the hiring yesterday.
