MARYVILLE, Mo. (AP) - A Missouri man accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old schoolmate when he was 17 has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor child endangerment charge as part of a deal with prosecutors.

Matt Barnett entered the plea Thursday during a court hearing in his hometown of Maryville. He was sentenced to two years of probation and a four-month suspended jail term.

The girl says Barnett raped her at a house party in January 2012. Barnett says the sex was consensual.

The local prosecutor dropped the case because he said the girl's family stopped cooperating.

A special prosecutor was tasked with re-examining it after it received widespread attention last fall.

Todd Combs will spend one year behind bars after admitting to giving alcohol to his stepson hours before the boy's death. A tearful Todd Combs told the judge on Monday that he was just trying to fit in with his kids when he provided them with alcohol during a family outing on the Meramec River last year. His stepson Christopher Marks went missing that day, after family members told police he was drinking beer and acting funny. Christopher's body discovered downstream three days later. The prosecution was asking for a 7-year sentence, but they lacked physical proof that alcohol played a direct roll in the boy's death. By the time Christopher's body was found, it was too badly decomposed to get an accurate alcohol reading. Combs will also serve two years probation, during which time he'll be forced to wear an alcohol monitoring bracelet.

A Kansas City man is facing up to thirty years in prison after a traffic stop in St. Charles County led to felony enticement charges.

Twenty-one year old Dominique Carter allegedly met a 13 year old girl through a smart-phone dating "app."

Police say he enticed her to send him semi-nude photos, and then pick her up at her St. Peter's home. But a short distance away, he was stopped by police for failing to use a turn signal.

St. Charles County Prosecutor Tim Lomar told Fox 2 News that it was just luck that led to Carter's arrest. "The only way that the officer was able to come into contact with these folks in the first place," Lomar said, "was the fact that the defendant committed a routine traffic violation."

Besides the enticement charge, Carter is also charged with sexual misconduct and child endangerment. He's jailed in St. Charles County on a $50,000 dollar cash-only bond.
