Larry Conners sues KMOV-TV over firing

Long-time St. Louis newsman Larry Conners is taking his age discrimination claims against his former employer to court.  Conners, 66, is suing KMOV-TV for $50,000, alleging that younger and less-experienced employees got better assignments and treatment.

The veteran broadcaster had filed an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission complaint after he was fired in May.

His dismissal came about a week after he posted controversial comments to Facebook.  Conners had suggested he may have been targeted by the IRS after a 2012 interview with President Barack Obama.

KMOV general manager Mark Pimentel told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that the station will "vigorously defend" itself against Connors' claims.

Illinois Sheriff faces sexual harassment charge

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) - A former secretary for a southwestern Illinois sheriff is suing the law enforcer, accusing him of violating her civil rights by sexually harassing her.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports that the lawsuit filed on Jaimie Linton's behalf in federal court in East St. Louis seeks $4 million in damages. It names Madison County Sheriff Robert Hertz and the county.

Hertz says he's not surprised by the lawsuit and says court is where Linton's claims will be vetted.

Linton alleges Hertz engaged in a pattern of abusive and inappropriate workplace behavior. Linton filed a complaint earlier this year with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, claiming Hertz followed her during her lunch hour, threatened her job and questioned her morals and character.

Former KMOV-TV news anchor Larry Conners is asking the Missouri Commission on Human Rights and the EEOC to look into his firing.  Conners has filed formal discrimination complaints against his bosses at the CBS affiliate.

Conners alleges that he was treated differently after a 2010 complaint about discrepancies in pay between himself and then co-anchor Vickie Newton.  Conners says his on-air assignments were reduced and he was offered only a 16 month contract, while less experienced employees were given  prime assignments and three year contracts.

Conners says station management also directed him to read an inaccurate statement on air regarding his recent problems with the IRS. His Facebook comments about those problems led to his eventual dismissal from KMOV.
