The Ride of the Century has come and gone.

The police have released final arrest figures for the event and it was a busy holiday weekend for officers. 47 people were arrested and 58 motorcycles were towed. A bulk of the arrests happened on Thursday, with 23 people taken into custody for reckless driving. The arrests ranged from infractions for missing registration to driving a stolen motorcycle.

Two bikers also died over the weekend. The event is organized by local motorcycle stunt team, the Streetfighterz.

A motorcyclist who was killed over the weekend during the Ride of the Century has now been identified. 32-year-old Michael Evans was killed when his motorcycle clipped a parked police car on January Avenue near Elizabeth. St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson says a group of four riders were speeding down the street when three of them veered to the left of the unmarked car. But the motorcycle driven by Evans attempted to pass on the right-hand side when he clipped the side-view mirror of the car. The motorcycle veered out of control and struck a pole in a wooded area near January Avenue. Evans, a Harrisburg, Illinois resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Final day for the Ride of the Century

The annual Ride of the Century that draws motorcyclists from across the county is in its last day.

And bikers' activities kept authorities busy. Heading into Sunday, two riders had died, police have made 15 arrests, and 25 motorcycles have been confiscated. Police handled the ride differently this year. Officers were stationed along roads and highways frequented in years past. Police would stop every biker and and ask for license and registration. The 25 confiscated bikes were taken for riders performing stunts or not have current registration.

The most common problems reported by residents were motorcycles going on sidewalks and bikers running red lights.

Two riders died over the weekend; one in south St. Louis and the other in St. Charles County.

Law enforcement agencies around the St. Louis region are joining forces keep the roads safe during the upcoming "Ride of the Century" motorcycle event.

Hundreds or motorcyclists will converge on the area over Labor Day weekend (Aug. 30-Sep. 1).  The Missouri Highway Patrol, St. Louis County Police and police in the City of St. Louis will be working together to crack down on unsafe stunt riding again this year.

In the past, these riders have been known to block traffic, drive erratically, and evade police all while performing dangerous stunts on crowded roads. Last year, more than 2,500 riders converged on the city for the event.  Nineteen people were arrested and several riders were injured.  In 2011, two riders were killed.
